The story of Jakes

Two doors down and twenty two years ago, Jake’s Pizza was born. The original owner Howard Radis purchased then Londonderry Pizza and began setting up shop. One of the first changes that was made was to make fresh dough daily for all of our pizzas, calzones and homemade bread. A practice we still do every day. The original shop consisted of four tables with red checkered table cloths, the pizza ovens we still use today a couple of refrigerators and not much else, except for a dream of one day expanding to bigger and better things. In the fall of 1987 Howard was joined by Current owner Tad Kinsley.  Howard and Tad had been long time friends both attending Johnson & Wales College in Providence RI. After getting our feet wet for a couple of years and honing down our craft. An opportunity arose to purchase Casey’s Pub, which was conveniently located right next door. Plans for the new restaurant were quickly in the works. With much help from family and friends (there are to many to name) the project began. Construction of the new place was filled with many obstacles, but if only by sheer determination the whole project was completed in about three months and Jake’s Marketplace Café was born, Opening on June 1^st 1989. The early years of Jakes were a busy time serving breakfast, lunch, & dinner 7 days a week. As the business grew so did our need for more space. In the spring of 1991 the area that is now Jake’s West End Bar was added. Around that same time the outdoor deck was expanded in order to accommodate our growing Volleyball league 16 teams strong and still going.

Over the years Jake’s has catered countless weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and has enjoyed serving our great homemade cuisine to locals and visitors from around the world.

As we embark on our third decade of business we look forward to seeing old friends and welcoming new ones for many years to come.

   So who is Jake?  Jake was Howard’s dog.
